Underground Railroad routes – western PA

Here’s a map of the routes supposedly taken by fugitive slave in western Pennsylvania. I found this at the California Area Historical Society.

A close up version shows the proximity of where the Latta Stone House is located – Roscoe –  and the city of Washington where the LeMoyne House is located.

  1. We had former slaves living in Parker PA (NW Armstrong County). Does anyone have any information on how they ended up here?

  2. I grew up in Roscoe and I know the stories about this house. I had also heard about a tunnel to the river, but that seemed pretty far-fetched, even hearing it as a child.

There is a log cabin in Beallsville, PA (my current hometown) that was also supposed to be a stop on the underground railroad.

Here is the location of the Latta House on google maps.

  3. I have been told my great x5 grand father Samuel Boocks who did fight and was taken to Anderson. That his farm was part of the underground railroad in western PA. anyone hear of this ?
